Hunt Auctions - Super Bowl XLIX Live Auction
Super Bowl XLIX is on tap for this coming weekend - and while most are debating ball pressure, I've been taking time to dissect the lots up for bid in Hunt Auctions upcoming Live Auction on Saturday, January 31st. The auction, which is currently accepting online bids, will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center North in Phoenix, AZ - host city of the big game. Of note, for the first time online bidders will have the ability to bid in real-time with the action on the auction floor. It makes sense all around: remote bidders will have an opportunity to stay in longer, and the auction house will be happy to see prices will go higher...
The Randall Cunningham Collection
As a Philadelphia sports collector you have to be impressed with the recent personal collections that have been put up for auction recently. Just in the past 12-months we have had items direct from the Reggie White Estate, Mike Schmidt, Julius Erving and now, Randall Cunningham! As the auction catalog points out, Randall has put these items up for bid in hopes to raise funds that will benefit Remnant Youth in Nevada - definitely a good cause! Below are links to a few "can't miss" items from his collection:
- Lot #57: Game-Worn 1991 Jersey
- Lot #67 - Reggie White Game Worn 1992 Jersey
- Lot #134 - 1990 Bert Bell Award - Given for NFL Player of the Year (MVP)
Early Championship Programs
These are three separate lots (#'s 220, 221 and 230) - but seem to go together... While many of us have probably seen the cover for the rare, 1960 Championship Game program - few probably have a real one. Even fewer are likely to have the companion periodicals - a 1948 and 1949 NFL Championship program. Here with pre-auction estimates ranging from $200-500, the three are available to collectors. I personally had not previously seen the covers for the '48 and '49 games - in which the Steve Van Buren led Eagles won!
Affordable Odds-and-Ends
As should be expected, most of the items included in the auction have the "premier lot" sheen to them. There are though, a few pieces that the average Joe-Collector can put bids in on without getting overextended. Check out a few of these lots to stay in your budget:
